Solar power
Is solar right for you?
Transparency with your best interest in mind
Green energy is such a hot topic in today’s global environment, and more homeowners than ever are considering installing solar panels on their home’s roof. As a public power utility, HES/energynet exists to serve the best interests of our customers. For this reason, we’ve put together the following information to assist our customers in the consideration of installing solar panels on their home.

What does the installation process look like?
Any time a solar array is installed on the HES electric system, there are certain steps that need to be followed to ensure the safety of your home and HES linemen.
It’s imperative that HES is aware of ALL solar arrays that are going to be interconnected with our electric system. We inspect and test the safety features of the solar array before the system can be turned on.
Your system is also required, by code, to have the proper disconnect switch to isolate it from the HES electrical distribution system should the need arise.
To contact HES Engineering, call (270) 887-0773 or email, engineering@hop-electric.com.
The interconnection agreement may be mailed to HES, Attn: Engineering, 1820 E. 9th street, Hopkinsville, KY 42240 or returned via email to, engineering@hop-electric.com
1
Submit a completed Interconnection Agreement (click here to download) and a solar array system electrical schematic for HES to approve.
2
HES will perform an engineering study to ensure the system is ready for interconnection to the solar system. At this point, an $850 engineering fee will be owed.
3
HES will give you the approval for your contractor to install the solar array system (you may also need to contact the TVA Dispersed Power Production program, if applicable).
4
Once your solar array is installed, you’ll schedule an engineer from HES to come out and make a final inspection of the system. If everything looks good to go, your contractor is approved to turn the system on!
