  • 6 Must-Have Smart Devices for Fall

    Thumbnail Placeholder

As the days get shorter and the air becomes cooler, fall is the perfect season to make your home more comfortable and efficient. Smart home devices can help you save energy, stay cozy, and create the perfect autumn atmosphere. Here are seven must-have smart devices for the fall season:

    1. Smart Thermostat

A smart thermostat is essential for keeping your home at the perfect temperature during fall’s unpredictable weather. These devices learn your preferences and automatically adjust the temperature, ensuring you’re always comfortable. Plus, they can help save on energy bills by optimizing heating when you’re not home.

    1. Smart Lighting

With shorter days, smart lighting can help keep your home well-lit while also saving energy. Set schedules or use motion sensors to ensure lights are only on when needed. You can also adjust the color and brightness to create a warm, cozy ambiance for fall evenings.

    1. Smart Plugs

Smart plugs are a simple way to control any device from your phone. Smart plugs provide the convenience of remote control for all your electronics.

    1. Smart Doorbell

With more packages arriving as holiday shopping kicks off, a smart doorbell is perfect for fall. It allows you to see who’s at your door and receive package delivery notifications even when you’re not home. This added security gives you peace of mind, especially as it gets darker earlier in the day.

    1. Smart SpeakerA tablet with smart home control system

Smart speakers like Amazon Echo or Google Home do more than just play music. You can use voice commands to control your smart home devices, check the weather, create grocery lists, or set reminders. They’re perfect for multitasking as you prep for cozy fall gatherings.

    1. Smart Security Cameras

Fall is often the time when people start spending more time indoors, but it’s also a season for visitors, deliveries, and potential security concerns. Smart security cameras let you monitor your home from anywhere, ensuring your property is safe whether you’re at home or away.

These smart home devices make life easier, more efficient, and cozier during the fall. It’s important to make sure you have a good internet connection for each of these devices. • TVA and HES Announce Electric Rate Changes

The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) has announced a 5.25% wholesale rate increase beginning in October 2024 which will affect Hopkinsville Electric System (HES) customers as well as the other 152 TVA power distributors in the seven state service area. Due to population growth and greater energy demand, TVA will require additional funds to build new generation and infrastructure and enhance the reliability of existing assets. In addition, HES will be implementing an increase to the kwh charges which will be spread among all our residential and commercial rate classes. The total of these rate changes will result in a $6.48 increase to the monthly electric bill of the average residential customer which will vary depending on usage.

“HES understands the burden a rate increase places on our customers and we work very hard to provide the highest quality service at the lowest cost. This increase is needed to continue to provide the level of service and reliability that our customers have come to expect”, says HES & energynet General Manager Jeff Hurd.

HES still remains one of the lowest cost electric power providers not only in western Kentucky but throughout the TVA seven state region. HES is a not-for-profit municipal utility which serves 13,000 customers within the City of Hopkinsville.

HES customers can find energy saving tips and efficiency programs to reduce your electric usage and lower your monthly bill at our website www.hop-electric.com or call 270-887-4200. The rate changes will become effective October 1, 2024 and complete details on HES electric rate schedules can be found on the same website.
