The Hopkinsville Electric System (HES) Medical Necessity Program is for customers who use electrically powered life-supporting medical equipment in their home. Participation in the program DOES NOT guarantee uninterrupted electric service. In addition, the program does not automatically extend electric bill due dates, nor does it provide priority restoration following a widespread power outage.
The benefits of participating in the HES Medical Necessity Program are to provide customers with advance notice of preplanned power outages, and to make certain customers understand that if they depend on electricity to operate medical equipment necessary to maintain their health, that during a power outage, they need to have a plan to either generate their own power, or move to a location that has power. Because despite the best efforts of HES, after past serious weather events, some HES customers have been without power for up to 5 days until complete repairs had been made to the HES power system.
Customers who wish to participate in the Medical Necessity Program may request an application by coming to the Hopkinsville Electric System at 1820 East Ninth Street or by calling main office at 270-887-4200. This service is not available at the drive-up window. You may also download a copy of the policy and application by clicking here.
